Webinar - XML in practice: tools and workflows for journal editors
XML is increasingly part of scholarly publishing workflows, supporting article display, metadata exchange, interoperability and quality control. Yet for journal editors who are new to XML, knowing where to start and which tools to use can be challenging.
On 29 October 2026, the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) Community Task Force will host XML in practice: tools and workflows for journal editors, a webinar exploring practical ways to introduce XML into journal publishing workflows.
Using the XML course available on the EDCH training platform, the session will combine a short introduction to XML with demonstrations of tools that editors can use independently or as part of an Open Journal Systems (OJS) workflow.
What will the webinar cover?
The session will explore three areas:
- XML in scholarly publishing: An introduction to how and why XML is used, including its role in data exchange, article display and quality control.
- Working with JATS XML: A demonstration of the platform-independent JATS XML Converter for creating and editing XML.
- XML in OJS workflows: A look at how XML can be produced within OJS using the docxConverter and Texture plugins.
The webinar will focus on practical examples and demonstrations, with time for discussion about the available tools and different approaches to incorporating XML into editorial workflows.
Who should attend?
The webinar is aimed at journal editors and others working in scholarly publishing who are new to XML or looking for practical ways to introduce it into their workflows. No advanced technical knowledge is required.
Whether you are exploring XML for the first time or looking to make your existing publishing process more efficient, the session will offer an opportunity to discover tools and approaches that may suit your journal's needs.

The webinar will feature contributions from:
- Maxim Kupreyev, OPERAS
