The AEGIS-OA project aims to create a high-quality, transparent, and sustainable open access scholarly publishing ecosystem in Europe. It builds on the work of the European Diamond Capacity Hub and expands its services to support Open Access books in addition to journals.
The project focuses on strengthening Diamond Open Access publishing by supporting the implementation of the Diamond Open Access Standard (DOAS) for both journals and books. It also aims to develop training programmes for publishing professionals, improve access to publishing tools and infrastructure, and coordinate a network of National Capacity Centres across Europe to align and support non-profit open access initiatives.
AEGIS-OA will run from March 2026 until February 2028 and is structured into six work packages, covering project administration, quality assessment, skills development, access to tools, network-building, and sustainability. Throughout its activities, the project promotes Open Science principles, including the co-creation of standards, open licensing of training materials, and the promotion of practices such as Open Peer Review.
The project aims to increase bibliodiversity, strengthen collaboration among institutional publishers, and improve understanding and adoption of Diamond Open Access models. It will also enhance the efficiency and sustainability of publishing services and promote the uptake of Open Science practices across the scholarly communication ecosystem.
To ensure long-term impact, AEGIS-OA will actively disseminate its results through the EDCH website and social media. The project also aims to integrate its outcomes into the EDCH to ensure that key resources and services continue to be maintained beyond the duration of the project.
